Calderdale Theatre School is the Youth Theatre for young people from all over Calderdale.

It was established in 1968 and currently has over 80 members aged between 11 - 19. We run theatre skills classes for our members and also put on regular productions at Square Chapel, Halifax and elsewhere.

CTS is a member of the National Association of Youth Theatres (NAYT) and of the International Schools Theatre Association (ISTA). Since 2004 we have attended youth theatre festivals in The Hague Holland, Brussels, Budapest, Terezin Memorial Camp in the Czech Republic, Berlin, Dresden, Lisbon and Cornwall. We have hosted two festivals here in Halifax and the Calder Valley. In Spring 2015 we are planning to attend a festival at the British School of the Netherlands in Holland.

Our professional staff have connections with local Theatre and Television companies and Theatre School members have the opportunity to be submitted for professional roles.

"A major inspiration and contributing factor to our work in the UK has been Calderdale Theatre School. Since Gillie Kerrod and her team at CTS began bringing young people to Festivals we have seen how significantly ISTA has benefited from their presence. Through their pioneering efforts, this local theatre school from a scattered group of villages and towns in West Yorkshire built an institution that quite literally defines its own place in the ISTA community."
Sally Robertson, CEO International Schools Theatre Association, September 2011.
